Sounding Visualization - Go on a bird's eye-view sounding flight

Vaisala has developed a new tool for visualizing the upper air radiosoundings using Google Earth®. This tool takes you up in the air to have an aerial view of the radiosonde flight. See how the pressure, temperature, humidity and wind behave during the ascent. Come and join us on this flight!

Click here to see the demonstration video or the tutorial video. Then, if you want to try out the tool, install the Vaisala Sounding Visualization Tool from here.

Install Google Earth®, if it is not already installed in your computer. It only takes a few minutes and you're ready for take-off…

Installation package

Vaisala Sounding Visualization Tool is a program for creating Google Earth compatible KMZ files from real soundings. The program generates a KMZ file from the data in a dc3db file. The generated KMZ files can be opened and viewed with Google Earth®.

A dc3db is a data file type generated by DigiCORA® MW31 Sounding Software. For the Sounding Visualization, the dc3db file must contain floating point precision sounding data. Floating point precision is the default in the DigiCORA version 3.52 and newer versions.

The installation package contains samples of sounding data, both in KMZ and dc3db format. You can open the KMZ file directly in Google Earth simply by doubleclicking. If you want to try the conversion from dc3db to KMZ, start the Visualization tool from the Start menu, open the dc3db file and start the conversion with the options you want. The sample files can be found in the folder that you specified for the program itself. The default location is C:\ProgramFiles\Vaisala\SoundingVisualizationTool\Demo.
